WHAT IS AN ANONYMOUS PROXY SERVER?

If setup correctly, an anonymous proxy server acts as a buffer between you and the websites that you visit. As data is relayed between you and the Internet, websites only see the IP address of the proxy server, making you "anonymous". There are many reasons for wanting to use anonymous proxy servers. The first time I became interested was when I was being blocked by a website because of "abuse" - a website that I had never visited before in my entire life! USING HTTP PROXY SERVERS

FOR INTERNET EXPLORER:
Select the dropdown menu for Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections
If you are using dialup, click on your connection. Cable/DSL users click on "LAN Settings"
Check the box that says "Use a proxy server for your LAN"
Enter the IP address and port number of the proxy server that you want to try
In most cases, check the box that says "Bypass proxy server for local addresses"
Click OK

Select the dropdown menu for Tools->Options->Advanced->Network->Connection->Settings
Check the box that says "Manual proxy configuration"
Enter the IP address and port number of the proxy server that you want to try
Check the box that says "Use this proxy server for all protocols"
In most cases, in the box that says "No proxy for", enter "localhost, 127.0.0.1"
Click OK
